What Is +EV Betting? A Plain-English Guide

Winning bettors do not chase wins. They chase value. Specifically, they chase positive expected value — +EV. Understand this one concept and you will think about betting the way the pros do.

Expected value, explained simply

Expected value is the average amount you would win (or lose) on a bet if you could place it thousands of times. A +EV bet is one where the odds you are getting are *better* than the true probability of the outcome.

The vig is why most bets are -EV

Sportsbooks build a margin (the "vig" or "juice") into every line. That is why both sides of a game are usually priced at -110 instead of even money. To win long term, you must find bets where your estimated probability beats the price *after* removing the vig.

How to find the "true" probability
